THE Philippine ju-jitsu team wound up with four gold medals in the East and Southeast Asia Regionals Championship last June 6-7 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Annie Ramirez hauled two golds in the -55kg division and the open weight category, while Hansel Co and Alexander Sulit ruled the -77kg and -85kg groups, respectively.
Nine-time Southeast Asian Games judo gold medalist John Baylon claimed one of the three silver medals for the squad, which also captured six bronzes in the competition.
Baylon, who has since moved to ju-jitsu as playing coach following his stint with the judo national squad, said the competition is a perfect build-up for the 5th Asian Beach Games in September.
“Maganda resulta namin lalo na’t nakikita na namin kung sino kalaban (sa Asian Beach Games),” said Baylon in Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.
Ju-jitsu won two of the three gold medals in the 2014 Asian Beach Games, one of which came from Ramirez, also a former judoka practitioner.
