BURN Soriano and Roy Doliguez are set to wave the Philippine flag high as they take on different foes at ONE: Throne of Tigers on Friday evening at Stadium Negara in Malaysia.
Soriano (3-2) looks to extend his winning ways at the expense of Saiful Merican in their bantamweight bout, following his highlight-reel worthy finish in his last fight when he stopped Indonesian Mario Sitya Wirawan with a spinning back fist in just 15 seconds.
“It’s an honor to represent the country on a global stage like ONE Championship. I promise that I will do my best to give my beloved nation another spectacular win,” Soriano said.
While Soriano seeks to build momentum, Doliguez is still searching for his first win in the organization but hopes to accomplish it in a tough battle against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist Alex Silva in his return after a year-long lay-off.
Entering ONE Championship with a 5-1 record, Doliguez has dropped his last two fights and would want nothing more than to stop the bleeding against Silva.
“This is an opportunity to redeem myself as one of the best strawweights in Asia. If I want to fight for the title again, I have to win this first,” Doliguez said, addding that he's not afraid of his foe's ground game.
“MMA is not all about grappling. There are other aspects... there are other ways to win. If he wants to go to the ground, let’s go. If he wants to strike with me, I am welcoming it with open arms," he added.
The event will be headlined by the lightweight eliminator bout between home town favorite Ev Ting and the returning Kamal Shalorous.
Awaiting the winner is ONE Lightweight Champion Eduard Folayang.
