BANGKOK — ONE Championship, the main MMA promotional group in Asia, will hold its first event in Thailand on May 27 in Bangkok.

Although ONE founder Chatri Sityodtong is from Thailand, and the traditional martial art of Muay Thai is an integral element of the fighting style of MMA, the promotional group has waited five years since its foundation to have its first event in the country.

The main billing will be the appearance of straw-weight champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke, who will make his first MMA pro bout in front of his home fans, having previously been a leading Muay Thai fighter.

Prior to the inaugural Thailand event, the next two ONE events will be in Yangon on March 18 and Manila on April 15.
