SINGAPORE — One Championship CEO and founder Chatri Sityodtong believes Eduard Folayang is set for the fight of his life when he takes on Kharun Atlangeriev on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The former lightweight king, with an 18-6 MMA record, is coming off a shock knockout loss to Martin Nguyen last November in the Philippines to drop the championship in front of his hometown crowd.
"Eduard needs to be at his best. If he's able to pull out a win impressively, then he's back. If he loses, then it's a downward skid for him," Sityodtong said.
"This is a high stakes fight for Eduard. His career is hanging in the balance."
Atlangriev is unbeaten in 11 fights, winning 10 by stoppage.
"He's fighting a very tough Russian wrestler who's undefeated at 11-0. It's gonna be the fight of his life. He's gonna need the whole Philippines to cheer for him cause it's gonna be tough," Sityodtong added.
Sityodtong is confident Folayang still has what it takes to return to the top of the division. If Folayang wins convincingly, Sityodtong promises him to be on another run for a title.
"Eduard have had a long rest so it's been great for him. He's hungrier than ever so it's like a 21 year old Eduard," Sityodtong said.
"He is so hungry, he's worked so hard and I believe we're gonna see the best Eduard ever on May 18."
