Ocaya edges Laotian rival to win Muay gold in SEA Games
Dec 21, 2013
Preciosa Ocaya won the gold in the women's 54kg class of the muay competitions to make up for the loss of teammate Philip Delarmino (red trunks) in the finals of the men's under-54 kg class of the 27th Southeast Asian Games.

PRECIOSA Ocaya beat Phithsaya Phoumchanh of Laos to win the gold medal in the muay competitions of the 2013 Southeast Asian Games on Saturday in Myanmar.

It was a huge win by Ocaya for the Philippine muay team that wasn’t supposed to compete in the SEA Games.

Prior to the SEA Games, the Muaythai Association of the Philippines (MAP) decided to withdraw from the Games where Muay was supposed to be organized by a rival group of the world federation.

But the squad decided to compete at the last minute after the issue was later resolved with the event now sanctioned by the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA), the mother organization of the MAP.

The muay team has so far won a gold and a silver courtesy of Philip Delarmino, who lost to Saw Dar Pot of Myanmar in the finals of the men's under-54 kg class.
