When ONE Flyweight MMA world champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson puts his mind to something, he usually gets it done.
That’s why his latest revelation on his YouTube channel “Mighty” is so interesting. He started talking about competing in boxing.
It wouldn’t be the first time Johnson dabbled in other sports. In his mixed-rules super fight with ONE Flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, he looked like he belonged there. When he focused strictly on jiu-jitsu, he took home medals.
Now he’s eyeing to compete in the “sweet science” and there’s no reason to doubt Johnson’s ability to transition.
“I’m going to break some news right now. I came home last night, broke down some content, and was watching Canelo Alvarez. Watching him box, I was like, ‘Oh my god, that looks so damn dope.’ [I] went to the gym, did jiu-jitsu, then came home and [thought I wanted to box],” Johnson said.
Who he wants to go up against when he makes the jump makes his proposition more interesting.
Johnson wants Pacman fight
He doesn’t want to fight a random influencer. He doesn’t want to fight another MMA fighter. Johnson wants eight-division boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao.
These two guys are known as two of the greatest small men to ever compete in combat sports.
Johnson put the smaller MMA weight classes on the map while Pacquiao remains the only fighter in boxing history to win world boxing titles from flyweight (112 lbs) to super welterweight (154 lbs).
“When my body is ready for a hard training camp, I’d love to box,” Johnson said.
'I'm doing it'
“And it would have to be the right opponent. If it was Manny Pacquiao, f— it, I’m doing it. I don’t want to box another MMA guy. I wouldn’t mind, but I want to box a legend of the sport.”
Though he said nothing about promoting a fight, ONE chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong liked that idea.
“I am down for it!” Sityodtong said. “Two goats!”
