Former MMA champ Ale Cali shot dead in Davao; motive still unknown

FORMER Pacific X-treme Combat (PXC) flyweight champion Ale Cali was shot dead in Davao City on Sunday, sending shock waves through the local MMA community.

Davao City police confirmed that Ali, 25, was shot in the head by a lone gunman in Ulas, Davao City at around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Police added they were still trying to establish the motive for the killing.

Cali won the PXC flyweight title against Guamanian stalwart Jesse Taitano via TKO in 2012 but made just one successful title defense before losing to Louis Smolka by stoppage on November 10, 2013.

He lost to unheralded Ernesto Mondilla in his last outing in March 2014. He posted a 5-3 career record.
