FROM just a spectator to participant, the transformation of Mark Striegl becomes complete on Friday night when he makes his ONE Championship debut in Valor of Champions against Casey Suire at the Mall of Asia Arena.
A fan and fixture in previous ONE offerings in the country, the Filipino-American rising mixed martial arts star showcases his skills in the biggest stage of the sport in Asia after transferring from the Pacifix X-Treme Combat.
"I've been to past ONE events in Manila and the atmosphere is electric. This time, I get to be a part of the event and I cannot wait,” Striegl said. “I want to put on a show for the fans in attendance."
Striegl, who has emerged victorious in all but one of his 13 fights, is moving down from featherweight to bantamweight and is taking on an undefeated American in Casey Suire.
Both fighters of the main undercard made the 135-pound limit during the weigh-in ceremony on Thursday night.
The four other Filipinos seeing action also passed their weight tests with flying colors.
Geje Eustaquio was well under the 125-pound flyweight limit in his bout against Thai Anatpong Bunrad.
Euguene Toquero, for his part, made weight along with opponent in Indonesian Brianata Rosadhi in another flyweight fight. In the all-Pinoy bout, Edward Kelly and Jimmy Yabo made their featherweight limit.
Main event fighters Ben Askren, the defending welterweight champion, and Luis Santos likewise had no problem making weight.
