MARK Abelardo has been itching to return to the cage since his defeat last February.
The Filipino-New Zealander gets his shot at redemption as he returns to the cage for One: No Surrender on Friday in Bangkok.
"When One said they were going to come back and they announced the show, it was perfect. I wanted to get on it and I was like, let’s do it," said Abelardo, who will take on Brazilian foe Fabricio Andrade in the undercard.
"It’s amazing, it’s good to be back, especially with competing."
The 28-year-old fighter out of Fairtex Pattaya is determined to redeem himself after suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Troy Worthen in One: King of the Jungle in Singapore.
It was a lackluster performance he is eager to put behind him as he tries to improve his 19-7 win-loss record.
"It’s just like a small bump in the journey," he said. "You can’t win them all. You just got to get better, prove yourself and put on a better performance in the next fight and that’s what I plan to do."
"I’ll be looking to mix it all up, both standing and on the ground, just pressure him everywhere and just look to break him. I want to utilize a lot of my wrestling, take him down when the opportunity comes and just wear him out and look from the finish from there. I want to look for a finish like I always do. Wear him down, put some pressure on him and look to finish him in the second or if not, the third," he said.
