IF Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang's to be asked, he would suggest that his former foe Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado head back to Thailand and hold camp there for his next fight.

In his last match, Miado started off strong but faltered in the end as #4-ranked strawweight MMA contender Hiroba Minowa outlasted him at ONE Fight Night 23 this past Saturday, 6 June, in Bangkok, Thailand.

It now seems that Miado’s best stretch in ONE Championship came when he was training at Marrok Force MMA in Bangkok.

Miado’s still flying out to Thailand to hold week-long camps there, but for Adiwang – who also left the Philippines to train with better grapplers at Soma Fight Club in Bali, Indonesia – that just won’t do.

“For me, he really needs to sacrifice, get out of his comfort zone again, and try to cross-train with higher level wrestlers and grapplers,” Adiwang said.

“His striking is top notch already. He just needs to improve his grappling, scrambles, and defense to be able to hang with the elites.”

It was a fight that Miado could’ve easily won with better takedown defense.

In the early goings, the gap in the striking department couldn’t have been wider as “The Jaguar” blasted away on Minowa early, scoring a knockdown in the first round and connecting clean during a few exchanges.

But Minowa dug down and went to his bread and butter, overwhelming Miado with his wrestling, controlling the Filipino from the top position from the second round forward.

For Adiwang, this match should serve as a wake-up call not only for Miado but for the whole Philippine MMA community.

“It goes to show the importance of sharpening your ground game and defense. That’s the only way we can hang with [high] level grapplers and wrestlers,” Adiwang said.

“We need to constantly improve. Not just to hang around and survive, but to also be on the same level as them. We have to step our game up to stand out and be dominant.”
