KHAMZAT Chimaev came up with an impressive stoppage on a night of decisions, defeating John Phillips via D’arce choke in the second round on Wednesday in the UFC at Yas Island in Abu Dhab.
Chimaev got the win at 1:12 of round two.
“I feel amazing. This was the plan, smash the guy, take the money and go home. My coach told me, ‘you have to do wrestling now, take him down and smash him,’” Chimaev said.
“This division is not my division, it is one more heavier, but I felt good. I did this before, same weight class, but down in weight is much better for me. I want to be champion at welterweight, I’m going to be champion in that,” he added.
Lerone Murphy also scored a stoppage, pounding Ricardo Ramos to get the win by TKO at 4:18 of round 1.
It was Murphy’s first win in UFC, after a draw with Zubaira Tukhugov in his UFC debut last ear.
“I wanted to prove that I belong here in the UFC. I plan to spend the rest of my career in the UFC, climb to the top, get into that top 15 and obviously one day be champion,” said Murphy.
“I’m very grateful to even get out of the house and come to Abu Dhabi where the hospitality is amazing. If Fight Island comes back later in the year, I’ll be here.”
Tim Elliott won a unanimous decision over Ryan Benoit, Jimmie Rivera outpointed Cody Stamann, Taila Santos dominated Molly McCann, while Mounir Lazzez also won by points over Abdul Razak Alhassan.
