KEVIN Belingon proved that he's ripe for another shot at longtime division kingpin Bibiano Fernandes as he claimed the ONE interim bantamweight title with a unanimous decision win over Martin Nguyen in 'Reign of Kings' on Friday night.
Belingon frustrated the two-division champion for the duration of the bout as he ran circles around Nguyen while tagging his foe with power shots before delighted home fans at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Not even an accidental low blow and headbutt early in the fight could stop Belingon as he imposed his will on the feet against Nguyen.
By the time the fight ended, all Nguyen can do was congratulate Belingon, knowing that the Team Lakay slugger had chalked up a comfortable decision victory.
"I cant explain this feeling. I am the happiest athlete here tonight," said Belingon who'll now await the recovery of Bibiano Fernandes for the belt unification fight. "I trained hard to get this belt."
Belingon improved to 19-5 as Nguyen dropped to 11-3.
In the co-main event, Shinya Aoki wasted little time in dispatching Shannon Wiratchai as he scored an easy TKO victory. Aoki scored a takedown and then quickly secured mount the moment the fight hit the ground.
Wiratchai certainly looked like a fish out of water on the ground as Aoki rained down elbows, busting Wiratchai's face and prompting the referee to stop the fight.
Aoki improved to 41-8 as Wiratchai dropped to 9-3.
Renzo Gracie, 51, was as slick on the ground as ever, following an impressive rear naked choke victory over Yuki Kondo in a battle of veterans.
