A LOT has changed in the lightweight division landscape of the ONE Championship since Kamal Shalorous grinded out a unanimous decision against Eduard Folayang in Manila three years ago.
What remains unchanged is Shalorous' confidence in beating the proud Filipino champion should they meet again in the cage.
“A lot of things have changed. The division had a major facelift. There are more talented fighters in the division right now. Aside from all of that, lightweight has a new champion,” he said.
“Eduard and I had a history. We fought before in ONE Championship. I hope we can meet again, but this time it’s for the title,” Shalorus added.
Folayang had earlier expressed his excitement over the prospect of facing Shalorous in a grudge match, which might happen if the latter overcomes Ev Ting in ONE: Throne of Fighters next week in Malaysia.
“I believe this fight against Ev Ting will help me get there. I still dream of becoming a world champion in MMA. Eduard is the one holding the title," Shalorous said.
"It’s a must-win for me if I want to vie for the world championship again,” he added.
The UFC and WEC veteran understands that Folayang is a lot different from the one he faced - and beat - three years ago. But his confidence remains unshaken.
“I believe it will be more difficult because he has showed improvement. Eduard has now a good ground game and more intelligent. But I know I can still win against him."
