JHANLO Mark Sangiao returned to winning ways in ONE Championship after submitting Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg of Mongolia in the curtain raiser of ONE Fight Night 33 on Saturday from inside Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Team Lakay rising star secured a rear-naked choke in the waning moments of the third round to get back on the winner’s circle after dropping his previous fight against Zoltsetseg’s countryman in Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu.

Sangiao shared how his team had devised a gameplan to neutralize Zoltsetseg’s heavy hands and accurate boxing, and that was exactly how the fight played out between the two bantamweights.
The 24-year-old was elusive on the feet, and accurate with his takedowns – particularly the double-leg as he controlled the brash Mongolian from the top position while actively looking for submissions in the first two rounds.

He even got Zoltsetseg’s arm late in the first round but just couldn’t pull off the armbar completely.
Knowing he’s behind on the cards, the Mongolian got a bit more desperate in the third round – keeping his hands low to maybe entice Sangiao into a brawl and be prepared whenever Sangiao shoots for a double-leg
But the highly-versatile son of Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao showed great composure this time, landing shots on the backfoot to completely avoid a brawl while keeping that threat of a takedown at a high.
He landed another double-leg midway through the final round, ducking under Zoltsetseg’s wild hook and securing the takedown which set the carpet for the finish.
“The Machine” initially looked for an arm-triangle, but when that didn’t work he transitioned to a north-south position and that’s when Zoltsetseg started softening up.
From that position, the second-generation fighter dropped knees on Zoltsetseg’s head – totally legal in ONE Championship’s ruleset – and when the Mongolian had enough and tried to wiggle out, Sangiao jumped on his back, secured the rear-naked choke and got the submission with 17 seconds remaining in the bout.
Celebration time for Jhanlo
Sangiao improved to 7-1 for his career, and took his sixth submission in the process. All of his four wins in ONE have come from submissions – a stark contrast to his Team Lakay kuyas who are known more for their deadly striking.
The win also gave Sangiao the third reason to celebrate this month as not only did he return to winning ways, he welcomed his first born late in June and he also celebrated his birthday early in July.
