JENEL Lausa made a successful UFC debut with a dominating performance over Yao Zhikui on Sunday in UFC Fight Night 101 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
The 28-year-old MMA fighter from Iloilo scored a unanimous decision victory in his flyweight bout against Yao with all the three judges scoring the fight, 30-27, in the undercard of Robert Whittaker-Derek Brunson bout.
“This win is going to be the first of many and I hope to get more blessings, more fights and hopefully I will eventually get to the belt,” Lausa said in an interview by UFC.com.
Lausa, who last fought last January against Crisanto Pitpitunge to claim the PXC lightweight crown, was supposed to make his UFC debut in Manila last month against Yao, but the UFC Fight Night at the Mall of Asia Arena was postponed.
Lausa upped his MMA record to 7-2.
A head kick by Lausa caught Yao before surviving the second round after a barrage of hits made by the Filipino fighter.
“I want to thank all of my family, my wife and son, my team, my fans, everyone who has always supported me in the Philippines and around the world, I am especially thankful to God for this blessing,” said Lausa.
