HONORIO Banario is so eager to get back on the cage and on the winning track that he is willing to fight an overweight opponent.
The Filipino bet agreed to battle Herbert Burns in ONE FC: Warrior’s Way on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena at a catchweight after his foe tipped the scales slightly over the 145-pound limit during the weigh-in ceremony on the eve of the fight.
Burns, an undefeated fighter from Brazil, came in .9 of a pound overweight, while Banario weighed in at 144.8 pounds.
“Inaccept ko para hindi sayang yung laban,” Banario said in a chat with Spin.ph after the proceedings. “Kasi naghanda ako nang husto eh.”
“Parehas rin naman kasi yung weight parang legal pa rin naman,” the Mankayan, Benguet pride explained. “Pag sa laban, halos parehas lang rin naman ng timbang kasi kakain din naman kayo parehas.”
Banario’s eagerness is understandable as he is coming off a three-fight skid that marked his fall from being ONE FC featherweight champion.
Aside from Banario, the other six Pinoys in Brandon Vera, Ana Julaton, Eduard Folayang, Kevin Belingon, Rene Catalan, and Jujeath Nagaowa all passed their weight tests with flying colors.
The rest of the fighters in the 10-bout card, bannered by the bantamweight title bout between Bibiano Fernandes and Dae Hwan Kim, also made weight.
