HONORIO Banario’s road back to ONE Championship supremacy takes him to Shanghai as he faces the deadly Amir Khan of Singapore in the co-main event of ‘Beyond Horizon’ set on September 8 at the Baoshan Arena.
Banario’s move to the lightweight division worked wonders for him as he has revived a career which once upon a time looked dead in the water following an alarming losing streak.
After winning the ONE Featherweight championship, Banario has dropped five straight fights before getting his second wind.
Now riding a five-fight winning streak, Banario looks as a good as ever.
“As a martial artist, it is very important to recreate myself,” said Banario.
“Everyone was doubting me. It was very hard to keep away from the negativity. But true champions take the negatives and turn them into positives,” he added.
Now he focuses on Khan who’s one of the most dangerous fighters in the division as he won seven of his last eight fights, with all but one coming from finishes.
But Banario is left unfazed.
“I see the fight as an exciting fight because we are both strikers. I also see it that I am winning this fight,” said Banario.
“There have been a lot of ups and downs throughout my career, but I am still here. I am still persevering. I am still giving it my all. Win or lose, I will give my best when I step into the ring,” he added.
Undoubtedly, Banario is confident that it’s only a matter of time until he gets his throne back and join the likes of Lakay teammates like Geje Eustaquio and Kevin Belingon at the heap of their division.
“True champions draw strength from defeat. It’s not how hard you fall, but the manner in which you rise again.”
