Gina Iniong gets emotional win in Bangkok, beats Jihin Radzuan by split decision

    Feb 17, 2019

GINA Iniong couldn't be happier to get back to her winning ways and having her arms raised at ONE: Clash of Legends on Saturday at Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Team Lakay bet beat Jihin Radzuan of Malaysia via split decision to hike her record to 8-4, gaining back confidence and boosting her dreams of once again challenging for the Atomweight Championship.

"It was a big relief. I struggled in my last bouts, so it feels really good to get back on track," she said. "Hopefully, this is a start of another run for me at the belt."

Iniong was in control for the majority of the three-round bout, imposing her will with her combination of strikes and perfectly-timed takedowns.

Not even Radzuan's late flurry in the third round could sway the judges from giving Iniong the slim win.

"I was confident that I did enough to get the win in the end," she said. "Radzuan is a tremendous warrior, and I wasn't expecting this to be an easy fight at all. Thankfully, our game plan worked."

"This win is for my family," she said while fighting back her tears.

It is also a huge boost for the Baguio stable, especially after its string of defeats in January when Joshua Pacio and Geje Eustaquio lost their respective titles in slim decisions on what has been a forgettable start for the year.

"This is also for my gym Team Lakay and the Philippines," she said.
