EDUARD 'The Landslide' Folayang and Eric ‘The Natural’ Kelly try to boost their status as two of the biggest names in local mixed martial arts (MMA) when they battle separate foreign rivals in the Universal Reality Combat Championship-Colt 45 XXII on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Long considered as the face of MMA in the country, Folayang battles American Lowen Tynanes in a duel billed as a 'superfight,' while Kelly tries to extend his unbeaten run to nine against the dangerous Brad Terrey of Thailand’s Phuket Top Team.
The 10-fight affair dubbed `Dekada’ at the newest entertainment hub is the highlight of URCC’s 10th year anniversary.
“It’s going to be a night to remember since the fight will be held at MOA and the fighters are the best in their divisions,” said URCC founder and president Alvin Aguilar. “Expect a lot of fireworks.”
Both Folayang and Kelly are expected to rely much on their experience as they bid to end their season with a bang in the event also sponsored by Xplay, Anzahl, Solar Sports, Chris Sports, VRP Medical Center. Tickets for the fight that starts at 8 p.m. are available at SM (470-2222)
Folayang, however, is hard-pressed to produce an impressive win as his American opponent is the reigning lightweight champion of the Hawaii-based Destiny MMA promotion.
Kelly is also up against a tough foe who’s expected to use his grappling skills to complement his striking style which the Filipino used in scoring a TKO win over former UFC Lightweight champion Jens Pulver.
Aguilar will also unravel some of his rising stars like Alvin 'The Phenom' Ramirez, Red 'Filipino Bolo Punch' Romero and Froilan Sarenas, who are all aching to make their mark.
Sarenas is out to defend his middleweight crown against Rodrigo Praxedes of Phuket Top Team, while Ramirez battles Spartan Sumogat in a pinweight tussle.
Romero, on the other hand, takes on SulpianoLaurio of Sprawl MMA in the featherweight division.
In other matches, flyweight Janel Lanusa goes up against Rami Crisostomo, flyweight Roy Doliguez against Dennis Salazar, Caloy Baduria vs Sugar Ray Estrada (catweight) and bantamweight Onyok Transmonte vs Hideo Morikawa.
The showdown between Jessie Rafols and Keiff Mangusan will be for the URCC bantamweight crown.
