EDWARD Kelly atoned for a loss in the most devastating fashion, demolishing erstwhile unbeaten Meas Mau in the preliminaries of ONE: Global Superheroes on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 33-year-old slugger out of the fabled Team Lakay needed just 22 seconds to put away his Cambodian foe, finding the target on almost every strike he threw much to the delight of the home crowd.
A beautiful one-two combination rocked Mau before a beautiful head kick finished off his outclassed foe for good.
“Naging emotional lang ako kasi last time, natalo ako (maski) nag-train ako ng maayos, na-disappoint ako ng husto,” said Kelly, who improved to 10-4 in his career.
Mau dropped to 6-1 with the defeat.
Kelly’s teammate wasn’t as fortunate as Jomary Torres continued her reign of terror in the division, dealing April Osenio her third straight defeat in a battle between two Filipina sluggers.
Torres finished the fight in just 40 seconds as she slammed Osenio down to the mat, leaving the Benguet native out cold in spectacular fashion.
“Salamat lang kay God na binigay niya sa akin yung panalo na ito pati sa coaches ko na nagtiwala sa akin. Hindi ko ineexpect. First time ko na-experience to,” said an elated Torres after the match.
The win allowed Torres to move to 4-0 as Osenio dropped to 2-4.
In the other matches, Adrian Matheis submitted Eddey Kaial via submission in the first round as Rajinder Sing Meena pulled off a huge upset after beating Ze Hang Zhao also in the first round.
