FORMER two-time ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang braces for the biggest fight of his career as he takes on the great Eddie Alvarez at ONE: Dawn of Heroes on August 2 at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Team Lakay bet is aiming to rebound from his stunning defeat to Shinya Aoki in Japan back in March. And what better way to ger back in championship contention than stunning a former UFC lightweight king in Alvarez.
The Filipino warrior, 34, is sure to have his hands full, especially with Alvarez hell-bent on redeeming himself after Timofey Nastyukhin knocked him out cold in the first round of their Lightweight Grand Prix quarterfinal showdown in Japan.
The 35-year-old American sure wants to show that he still has a lot left in the tank and prove that his foray into ONE Championship isn't all hype.
Nastyukhin will also be in action as he faces former ONE Lightweight World Champion Honorio Banario in the Lightweight Grand Prix semifinals.
It's a new lease on life for Banario as he steps in for the injured Lowen Tynanes. Banario fell to Tynanes in their Grand Prix quarterfinal bout back in January.
The semifinals of the Flyweight Grand Prix will also take place in the Manila fightcard.
Former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is set to take on Japanese fighter Tatsumitsu Wada, while hometown bet Danny Kingad takes on former ONE flyweight world champion Kairat Akhmetov of Kazakhstan.
Headlining the Manila card will be Jonathan Haggerty, who will defend his ONE flyweight muay thai world championship against Thai challenger Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
