JAKARTA -- Danny Kingad did just enough to best Yuya Wakamatsu in the undercard of ONE: Conquest of Heroes Saturday at Jakarta Convention Center.
The Team Lakay flyweight was unpertubed despite the slick moves of his Japanese rival as he had his hands raised at the end of a highly entertaining three-round bout.
Wakamatsu rocked Kingad with a right hook early on in the match, but the Team Lakay recovered quickly and still was able to put his Japanese foe on a prone position for a rear-naked choke just before the end of the first round.
The two further engaged in a striking duel in the second round, with Wakamatsu gaining the upper hand and squeaking in a pair of solid shots to the head in the final moments of the round.
Kingad did have a strong finale, taking advantage of an obviously gassed Wakamatsu as he took the fight to the ground. Though he failed to lock in a rear-naked choke to secure a submission win at the tailend of the match, his strikes capped off an impressive showing for the Baguio native.
Kingad now improves to a 10-1 card, while Wakamatsu fell to 10-3.
Zamboanguena atomweight Jomary Torres, meanwhile, suffered her first defeat, falling to Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol of Indonesia via unanimous decision in the preliminaries.
The Filipina was intent on taking the hometown bet down to little success, but Lumban Gaol was ready to counter with a guillotine followed by a flurry of knees much to the delight of the crowd.
Torres barely mounted any offense as she dropped to a 4-1 record in her career, as Lumban Gaol rose to 4-3.
Japanese shooto specialist Koyomi Matsushima (10-3) delivered a stunning upset of former ONE Featherweight Champion Marat Gafurov (16-2), catching him with a solid right hook before coming down hard with a barrage of strikes to score the TKO win in the two-minute, 41-second mark of the second round.
Turkish lightweight Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev (6-1) hardly broke a sweat as he crushed Russian counterpart Timofey Nastyukhin (12-4) with an onslaught of strikes for the knockout win at the 1:57 mark of the opening round to send the audience to their feet.
Former ONE Flyweight Champion Kairat Akhmetov (25-2) stamped his class on Chinese foe Ma Hao Bin (11-4) for the unanimous decision triumph to get back to his winning ways.
In the preliminaries, Fabrice Fairtex Delannon (56-10) of French Guyana also edged Yodpanomrung Jitmuangnon (230-69) of Thailand via split decision in their ONE Super Series muay thai showdown.
Sunoto (10-4) also forced Victorio Senduk (3-2) to tap out to his rear-naked choke after four minutes and 12 seconds in the second round in one of the three all-Indonesian fights in the night.
Adrian Mattheis (6-4) gave Angelo Bimoadji (0-1) a rude welcome in his mixed martial arts career, connecting with a nasty right uppercut at the 2:41 mark of the opening round to score the technical knockout victory.
Indonesian boxer Egi Rozten (4-1) showed off his striking prowess as he dominated compatriot Riski Umar (3-2), forcing the referee to stop the fight 51 seconds into the third round.
