CRISANTO Pitpitunge ensured it would still be a night to remember as he scored a sensational knockout victory over Alvin Cacdac that capped off Pacific X-Treme Combat 48 on Saturday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig.
Their main event was supposed to be for the vacant flyweight belt, but was reduced to a non-title fight after both fighters came in overweight - Pitpitunge one pound beyond and Cacdac two pounds over the 125-pound limit.
At least the Benguet native Pitpitunge put on a show, sending the Filipino-American Cacdac to sleep with a right cross at the three-minute, 52-second mark of the first round.
“It’s not about the belt, it’s about winning,” said Pitpitunge, a Baguio City cop who took a leave from work and repaid his superiors' support with the win.
The co-main event was also stripped of its significance as Rolando Dy likewise came in overweight for his bantamweight title bout against Kyle Aguon.
Aguon showed his preparedness on and off the ring as he edged out the Davao-born Dy, who went in half a pound overweight, via split decision after scoring numerous takedowns.
In what should’ve been a title fight instead, Jenel Lausa knocked out Ernesto Montilla Jr. with a left cross with only a second left in the first round of their flyweight bout.
Mark Abelardo, for his part, scored a technical knockout win over Harold Banario in their bantamweight bout.
