ANOTHER Filipino fighter in CJ de Tomas made it to the UFC as he's slated to take on Japanese MMA prospect Naoki Inoue in UFC Fight Night 111 in Singapore on June 17.
De Tomas, the reigning URCC flyweight champion, was signed by the MMA giant last Friday and was confirmed on the fight card on Monday.
At 8-0, de Tomas will be the fourth homegrown Filipino to make it to the big league after Dave Galera, Mark Eddiva and Jenel Lausa cracked the organization in the past few years.
The 20-year-old fighter out of Quezon City has rampaged through the URCC flyweight division, having beaten the likes of Alvin Ramirez and Hideo Morikawa in the organization.
But de Tomas will have his hands full against Inoue, who's known as a submission artist during his time with DEEP organization.
The 19-year-old Japanese fighter has won all 10 of his fights, seven via submission.
Jon Tuck, a Guamanian who traces his roots to the Philippines, will also be seeing action in the card as he takes on Japanese MMA legend Takanori Gomi.
Meanwhile, among the big names featured in UFC’s return to Singapore are former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, who takes on Marcin Tybura, and ex-lightweight king Rafael Dos Anjos, who battles Tarec Saffeidine.
