BRANDON Vera is stepping up to challenge Aung La N Sang for the ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship.
The reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion issued the challenge during the ONE: A New Era at Ryoguku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan, baring his intention to move down to a lower weight class to face the Burmese MMA superstar.
Vera climbed up the cage after N Sang made another sucessful of his title with a second-round knockout win against Ken Hasegawa, downing the Japanese challenger with a solid right straight punch.
"Congrats on your win tonight. You're a man among men," said Vera.
"I would like to ask, if we're both healthy and we're both in shape, could you and I meet here in Japan in October to challenge you for the light heavyweight title?"
Without batting an eyelash, N Sang retorted: "You know I've always been a big fan of Brandon and it would be an honor for me to fight Brandon in October. Mr. Chatri (Sityodtong), what would you say?"
To that, ONE chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong answered in the affirmative. "Let's get it on!" he said.
Vera followed up on his plea to fight N Sang after announcing his intentions last November, when he successfully defended his belt against Mauro Cerilli of Italy.
