MACAU – For mixed martial arts in this side of the world, there's just no one who does it better than Bibiano Fernandes.
The Brazilian sensation needed less than two minutes to dispose Andrew Leone and retain the ONE Bantamweight title in the main event of the Kings and Conquerors card, Saturday at the Cotai Arena, here.
Fernandes submitted his American foe with 3:13 left in the first round, applying the rear-naked choke and forcing the tap-out in a rather quick fashion.
By the end of the match, Fernandes looked like he could fight three more times.
"I feel great. Thank you Macau for having me. I'm just thankful for my family from Brazil, who came all the way here to watch.”
"I don’t want to talk too much. I just want to fight. Whoever ONE gives me, I will face. Now I just want to go home and rest with my family," he added.
From the clinch, Fernandes dropped Leone with a short right hand before pouncing on his hurt foe with vicious strikes from the half mount.
Continuously glancing at the referee to stop the fight, Fernandes put matters in his own hands as he jumped in the back of Leone and quickly applied the choke for his seventh straight title defense and 10th straight win in ONE.
He improved to 21-3 for his career as Leone dropped to 8-3.
Meantime, Adriano Moraes became the undisputed ONE Flyweight title by edging Kairat Akhmetov via unanimous decision in the co-main event of the evening.
