ANTHONY Johnson earned a shot at controversial light heavyweight champion Jon Jones with a shock first-round technical knockout of No. 1 contender Alexander Gustafsson in UFC Fight Night Stockholm on Sunday.
The No. 3-ranked American stopped the home bet two minutes and 15 seconds into the match, winning by TKO on punches for his third straight victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and ninth consecutive overall.
A right hook by Johnson started the barrage, sending Gustafsson down on a knee and dominating the rest of the short show to improve his mixed martial arts record to 19 wins and 4 losses.
Gustafsson now has a 16-3 MMA record, suffering his second loss in three fights, including a unanimous decision defeat by Jones in 2013.
