Lito "Thunder Kid" Adiwang believes he has his work cut out for him when he takes on the deadly Danial "Mini T" Williams in a strawweight MMA showdown at ONE Fight Night 19: Haggerty vs. Lobo on February 17 inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
While Williams has struggled in his past outings, the Thai-Aussie heavy hitter has gamely squared up with the who’s who of the ONE Championship striking arts, from ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, flyweight kickboxing king Superlek Kiatmoo9 and strawweight MMA ruler Jonathan Di Bella.
Adiwang has something to prove
For Adiwang, he wants nothing more than to prove that he’s one of the best strikers in the world and he plans to prove that by beating Williams the same way that he lost to those World Champions.
“He’s fought the best strikers like Rodtang, Superlek and Di Bella. I think his goal here in ONE is to fight the best strikers in the world, that's why they gave him to me,” he said.
“What I want to show is that my striking also belongs on the top.”
After being out for more than a year, Adiwang bounced back in the most emphatic way possible as he knocked out Adrian Mattheis in just 23 seconds in his comeback, while evening the score with Jeremy Miado to close out the year.
Adiwang not taking Williams lightly
Though Adiwang has been eyeing a top–five contender for his next fight, he has no problems taking on “Mini T” knowing that he’s facing someone who won’t back down from a fight.
“Though I didn’t get a ranked opponent, I’m always happy to get a fight,” Adiwang said.
“I have always said that I’ll face anyone, although I would’ve prepared a fighter in the top five, Mini T is not someone you take lightly.”
While he didn’t get the top-five opponent that he wanted, he knows that he can crack into the top five with an impressive performance.
“I think I’ll enter the top five with a win. Some of those in the top five have already competed, and I expect them to drop out with the losses,” he said.
“This would be my third consecutive win, if I win and I believe I deserve to be in the top five. And with a few more wins, I believe I deserve a title shot.”
