TEAM LAKAY head coach Mark Sangiao is 100 percent confident that ONE Championship’s latest signee, Carlo “The Bull” Bumina-ang, is bound to go places.

Bumina-ang earned his spot in ONE following his fifth straight win on the ONE Friday Fights platform, choking out Chayan Oorzhak two weeks ago inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 30-year-old has earned four of his five wins by stoppages in the weekly spectacle, and Sangiao is excited to see how his ward will fare against some of the best bantamweights in the world.

“I’m very happy and proud of him as he not only got the bonus, but the contract in ONE Championship as well. That’s not only an achievement for him, but for the entire team,” Sangiao said.

The softspoken mentor raved about Bumina-ang’s no-nonsense approach to fighting, as he always comes in looking to finish his bouts whenever the situation presents itself.

Sangiao even went as far as saying that “The Bull” has some of the heaviest hands he’s seen from his students – both past and present. That’s big praise considering the list of names that the Team Lakay head honcho has trained.

“Carlo has really improved through these five fights. He really is ready. He’s primed for the big time. I’d say he has one of the heaviest hands I’ve ever handled,” he said.

“Of course, our champions in the past have their own thing, but I believe these next generation of athletes like Carlo have the same instinct. They want to finish the fight in whatever way possible. That’s exactly what ONE Championship wants: work to finish. For as long as we have that opportunity, we don’t want to leave our fate in the hands of the judges.”

Mess with 'The Bull,' you get the horns

At the same time, Sangiao was quick to remind his student that this is just the beginning.

“What I always remind him is that he shouldn’t stop working. Just because he’s already reached the main roster doesn’t mean he could abandon all the hard work,” he said.

“As coaches, we’re here to remind him that wherever he ends up, we’re always here to help him out. I hope he always remembers where he came from because humility is one of the keys to why he’s here.”
