ERIC Duma had a very good reason to finish the 2015 Condura Skyway Marathon - he was going to propose marriage to Joy Lopez, his girlfriend of seven years, after his first ever 42K.
I want to have a reason to finish that 42 K- alive and standing,” he told SPIN.ph.
So when Lopez was asked to go up on stage, she had no idea what was bound to happen until her boyfriend went down on one knee and presented a diamond ring.
“Nagulat ako! Hindi ko nga alam kung paano magre-react! (I was asking myself), 'Nangyayari ba ito?'” she said, never expecting a proposal at all.
“Hinde! Wala akong idea," she added laughing.
Thankfully for the intrepid marathoner, Lopez said yes.
The couple, co-workers in a bank, said they have been running for the past three years. It was the couple’s second Condura run, their first being a 10K in 2013.
Duma said he used to deal with a weight problem and initially tried going to the gym. When that proved unsuccessful he tried running.
The couple will celebrate their seventh Anniversary on February 7.
Duma said he is thankful to get a lot of help from supportive race officials from Condura and RunRio.
“Sobrang prepare!
