BASED on how creepy the zombies present were at the Outbreak Mission press conference, their Operation: Stronghold is set to scare the wits out of horror and adventure fans in Intramuros on April 5.
Organizers conducted a ‘mission briefing’ for invited members of the media and the blogging community on Wednesday at The Aristocrat restaurant along Roxas Boulevard.
Angelo Cruz of Runtertainment said they expect more than 5,000 participants to gather for a “live action zombie survival challenge” inside the historic Walled City.
More than 40,000 people have experienced the thrill of being chased by zombies in the five Outbreak Manila races in Filinvest, Bonifacio Global City and Enchanted Kingdom for the last two years. For this year, Cruz said they wanted to up the ante.
“At this point we are exploring to increase everyone’s experience, what we have now is Outbreak Missions,” he explained.
Outbreak Missions is not a mere offshoot of Outbreak Manila, which is a five-kilometer ‘zombie-infested’ fun run.
Cruz said not only will participants be challenged physically but they will also be forced to make critical decisions in high-pressure situations.
Aside from zombies chasing after them, players working in teams will encounter non-playing characters during the game. NPCs will engage participants for a deeper understanding of the story and will provide coordinates to help the progress to the next point.
Some characters will ask the players to divert from their mission to help them with a personal interest with the promise of a reward while other characters will take advantage of such “kindness."
Clues in certain areas that can give coordinates to the next area or help uncover special items which have different benefits such as provide camouflage for a period of time, give extra flags or actually attract zombies to your location.
According to the website, the story is as follows: “After his failed Filinvest experiment, Dr. Alfonso Adarna heads to Intramuros to continue his research. Upon reaching the walled city, Adarna is ambushed by the brotherhood, a fanatical band whose plans are more evil than his. The key to this lies in a strain of smallpox dating back to the Spanish occupation, well-preserved and hidden inside Intramuros.”
“A rescue attempt has freed Alfonso from the clutches of the brotherhood, but the group got scattered en route to the outer walls. Now it's a race against time to find Dr. Adarna?Find the doctor. Stop the brotherood.”
