MUCH has been written and said about juicing - which we won’t care to elaborate here. Instead, we’d rather talk about Juice Jab’s Jolt pack, a six-bottle, two-day, once-every-mealtime program designed to act as nutritional supplements (rather than meal replacements or body cleansers). In this particular case, we have the Energy Jolt, which “gives your body that extra push to accomplish the demands of a very active lifestyle,” as Juice Jab claims. They’ve got a range of Jolts (and Jabs) to match your goals and lifestyle.
The Jolt pack comes in a neat bag, containing six raindrop-shaped bottles (which make them look like magic potions), along with two reusable ice packs. If you don’t plan to drink them right away, Juice Jab recommends placing the bottles in the ref. A word of warning though - since the juices are all-natural, they will not keep as long as that tetra-brick of OJ. If you also follow Juice Jabs instructions, you’ll be replenishing by the second day anyway.
The Energy Jolt has three different flavors, which you’re supposed to drink in a specific order for each day. First is the 'Platinum Hit,' followed by the 'Peridot Kick,' and lastly the 'Pearl Drive.' Each potion made with a combination of ingredients that promise to pick you up. The Platinum Hit contains the pairing of coconut water and cinnamon - it even has some cinnamon bark in the bottle for good measure. After a quick morning run, we gave the bottle a good shake, twisted off the cap, and took a small sip.
For lack of a better word, it was a refreshing, tasty combination that went down easily prior to breakfast. The Peridot Kick was plateside during lunch - a blend of apple, celery, and spinach. Some separation occurred in the ref - with some sediments settling at the bottom of the bottle, so a more vigorous shake was required prior to quaffing. There’s no disguising the fact that this was like drinking a salad (and we mean that as a compliment), with the celery’s flavor more pronounced than the other ingredients. As far as drinkability? We used this to chase down slices of steak. Last in line for the day was the Pearl Drive, a milky-white mix of cashew nuts, ground cinnamon, and water. We decided to have this after dinner, instead of dessert. Again, a bit of separation occurred - nothing a good shake won’t fix. We’re not sure how Juice Jab pulled this off, but to us this tasted like, well, yogurt - more specifically, like Indian Kulfi (it was a good decision to have it after dinner, then!). We chugged this down, rather than savoring the taste, though.
The process was repeated the next day, following the prescription of Juice Jab. Did we feel a spring in our step? More pep on our pedals? To be honest, it was hard to say with just a two-day program. Perhaps a long-term relationship would provide more obvious results, after doing a bit of cost/benefit analysis. There's certainly a premium to be paid for an all-natural, freshly-made, and thought-through product. One thing is clear though - Juice Jab is an easy-to-ingest way to supplement your meals and round out your nutrition. We’d drink to that!
