THE year is coming to a close, gents. And when you’re in the Philippines, that means the Christmas season — the longest one celebrated in the world — is finally reaching its climax.

Now, since you’ll probably end up going to tons of parties and gatherings in the next couple of weeks, you better make sure you look your utmost best. After all, not only will you likely have to see many (judgmental) friends and family soon, you wouldn’t want to cap off 2017 in anything less than a fresh, cool ‘do, right?

Here are three rockin' hairstyles for your consideration:

When you’ve got some length to your locks but don’t want to deal with a floppy fringe (or, on the totally opposite end of the spectrum, a slick back), then a brush up is one way to get your hair out of your eyes. When done correctly, this style will let you rock an effortlessly edgy vibe while still tiptoeing the line of workplace-and-midnight-mass-appropriate.

    How to get it:

Get your hair to a good 4-6 inches in length at the top. While not necessary, you’ll find it easier to tame this ‘do if you clip it shorter on the sides, and tapered in the nape and sideburns. A choppy scissor-cut is also advisable, especially if you’re a fan of the messy look.

    How to style it:

While you hair is still damp, apply a good amount of hair product. Something like mousse will help you achieve more volume, especially if you apply from the roots out. For maximum height, use a blow dryer to lift your hair—though you can also just rely on a comb or your fingers, stroking up gradually until your hair gets into the desired shape. Direct the peak slightly to the side for a more dapper finish.

    2) Tousled Side Part

One of the most classic of hairstyles, the side part has stood the test of time and trends. There are countless variations of this undying ‘do; and while the final look usually leans more towards refined than rebel, it’s still what you would call a versatile style. With just few flicks here and there, you can change up your side part to fit any number of situations: for example, giving it a slight tousling for a more casual, but still fairly elegant, look.

    How to get it:

Grow out your hair to about a 2-4 inches all around, with the option of getting the front and top slightly longer for a subtle fringe. Best to get a tapered neckline for a neater final look.

    How to style it:

Before your hair completely dries, run a small dollop of product through it. With a comb, draw out your side part before switching to your fingers to fluff up your front fringe. Loosely sweep the rest of your hair to the back, with special care to smooth out your sides.

    3) Modern Pomp with Hard Part

The pompadour has enjoyed a lot of popularity in the last couple of years, and for good reason: the style can instantly add drama and flair to any look. And with Christmas coming up, there’s no better time to go all out in the hair department. That being said, a perfectly coiffed modern pompadour promises to turn heads no matter where you end up during the holiday season.

    How to get it:

The modern pompadour requires wearing your hair long at the top and short on the sides. For this particular ‘do, keep the top 4-5 inches long, while the sides are treated to a mid or high fade. Lastly, have your barber give you a hard part, too.

    How to style it:

Apply hair product while you hair is still damp and segregate your hair following the hard part. With a blowdryer or just your fingers, lift your hair until desired height and volume are reached. To create the smooth pomp look, comb the side-most parts of the top half of your hair upwards and to the center. Next, comb back the front portion, following a rolling outward motion to give you that distinctive bump. Once you’ve got the pompadour in place, neaten up your sides and back. Apply more hair product to hold the shape—go for one with a shiny, wet finish for a slicker final look.
