Guys who keep their hair short usually get a haircut at least once a month. So what's a guy to do under the current circumstances? For one, you can always be your own barbero and do it yourself at home. It might seem like a daunting task, but the good news is we're here to guide you every step of the way. Before we begin, here's a list of things you'll need:
- A towel to wrap around you
- A big piece of plastic to be used as your cutting cape
- Clip
- Scissors
- Hair clippers
- Comb
- Baby powder
- Water in a spray bottle
Now that you're all covered, we asked top hairstylist Lourd Ramos to prepare a video guide that you can easily follow. Watch this:
Step 1: Wash your hair.
Before anything else, make sure that your hair and scalp are clean. A shampoo like Dove Men + Care Refreshing Clean Shampoo can help get rid of dirt and excess oil from your hair and scalp and will give you that presko feeling.
Step 2: Cover up.
Wrap a clean towel around your shoulders like a small cape, and clip it in front. Then, put a piece of plastic over your towel as another cover.
Step 3: Comb and clip your hair.
Detangle your hair by combing it backward while gathering your hair in your hands. Secure your hair on the crown of your head using a clip.
Step 4: Start cutting on the side.
Comb through a section on the right side of your head and position the comb right above your ear. Then, run the clipper on top of the comb to start cutting your hair. Once you’re done, raise the comb a little to cut more hair until you finish with the right side. Repeat the process on the other side and at the back.
Step 5: Cut the top section.
Remove the clip from the crown area, comb your hair backward then upward, and position your index and middle fingers near the tips to measure how much hair you're going to trim. If you want to add texture to the tips, hold your scissors vertically as you trim the tips of your hair.
Step 6: Powder and style.
Apply baby powder on your face and neck, then style your hair using a product like Axe Ice Chill Pomade. Scoop a small amount using the tip of your index finger, put the pomade on your hand, and warm it by rubbing your palms together. Apply the pomade by smoothening out your hair backward with your hands. Once done, brush your hair as you wish.
Remember: Proceed with each step slowly and carefully to avoid mistakes. With the right tools and products, you can get a trim and tidy up without having to go to your barber. Sounds simple enough, right? Good luck!
