According to event organizer RunRio, the Cebu Marathon is only one of two running events accredited by Aims in the country, the other being the Milo Marathon.
With Aims accreditation, runners’ times in the Cebu Marathon can be used as qualifying time for other international running events such as the prestigious Boston Marathon.
Assembly time at the Cebu IT Park is 2am for the 42k runners for 3am gunstart while the 21k race will start an hour later.
Organizers also made changes to last year’s route where Mango Avenue has been replaced by the more challenging roads in the Banawa district due to its uphill terrain.
Hydration, banana and sponge stations will be located at regular intervals for the runners’ benefit. Although cups will be provided for water, participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles as a way to lessen the environmental impact of the race.
Podium finishers for the open and local categories in both the 21k and 42k races will be given cash prizes amounting to a total of P313,000. Three runners will also be selected for Best Costume awards.
Now on its seventh year, the Cebu Marathon has attracted a slew of sponsors tha include, Safeguard Active, Gatorade, Milo, Ayala Center Cebu, Saucony and the Cebu Grand Hotel.
