ALASKA is set for a grand celebration of the 2016 Alaska Milk Day as it holds simultaneous fun runs and health-friendly activities in four different cities nationwide on June 11.
On its fourth annual staging, Alaska Milk Day is a campaign catering to Filipinos of all ages yearning for an active lifestyle in a family-friendly environment.
Thousands of participants from Metro Manila, Davao, Cebu and the newest venue, Naga will grace this year’s event. The centerpiece is the individual (3km and 5km) race category in the provincial areas while Metro Manila plays host to individual (1km, 3km and 5km) and 3km family run race categories and a new Disney-themed fun run event for children ages 4-7 years old.
A nationwide 'Milk Toast' at 6:00 a.m. will also culminate the celebration, where all participants will simultaneously drink milk and make a pledge to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. The activity aims to encourage everyone, especially the children, to make drinking milk a daily habit and a staple in having a healthy lifestyle.
The event will be more appealing to kids with some help from their favorite Disney and Marvel characters. There will also be Zumba classes in all areas to enliven individuals and families to start a morning health and fitness regimen.
Alaska Milk encourages children and adults alike to get into the habit of drinking milk and at the same time, engage into sports activities to achieve optimum health. In doing so, Alaska Milk Day will be complemented by a power breakfast through the 'Alaska for Breakfast' campaign, which aims to get everyone to start the day right with a well-balanced meal.
AlaskaBreakfast stations and milk bars will be set-up in all the four areas providing all the participants with pan de sal, champorado and milk for free.
In the 8th National Nutrition Survey conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, it revealed that 2 out of 10 children among 0-5 years old were underweight and 5 out of 100 children among 0-5 years old were overweight.
Overweight and obese prevalence among the children five years old and below is even going up at an average of 0.17%-points per year for the past 24 years. Also, 3 in every 10 adults are overweight and obese.
With this alarming rate, Alaska Milk has committed to support the yearly celebration of World Milk Day through Alaska Milk Day and the Alaska for Breakfast campaign, with the goal to help reverse this prevailing nutritional problem that could lead to serious health, economic and social implications.
Supporting Alaska Milk Corporation in this endeavor are Rhea Generics, Babyflo, Systema, Hana Shampoo and Champion.
The target beneficiary of the Alaska Milk Day Run is the Children’s Hour. For every registered participant, Alaska Milk Corporation will donate the same quantity of milk bags to their chosen recipient.
