CUBAN import Wilma Salas has made heads turn and jaws drop after leading Petro Gazz to four consecutive wins in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

The prolific spiker wasted no time making a good first impression, scoring 20 points as Petro Gazz stunned defending champion Creamline in straight sets less than 24 hours after she arrived in the country.

Salas unleashed another gem of a game three days later, unloading 18 markers, built on 15 kills, to power her team to another straight-sets victory, this time over BanKo.

“I feel good day by day,” she said. “I’m working better, my body feels better. I think I’m playing better day by day.”

Petro Gazz banked on Salas anew as she delivered 25 points against Motolite and 12 markers and nine excellent receptions against BaliPure.

Salas currently leads all scorers and spikers this conference while keeping Petro Gazz unscathed to tighten its grip on the No. 1 spot.

But the former Cuban national team player was quick to deflect the credit.

“I feel very comfortable because every time the team help me. I feel very good,” said Salas, who has a total of 75 points, from 69 attacks, three blocks, and three aces to top the best scorers race.

The 6-foot-1 reinforcement, who has a 53.08 success rate in spikes, played down the notion that all eyes will be on her as the Angels aim to sweep the first round of elimination on Saturday against Pacific Town Army.

Instead, Salas insisted that it will be just another day at the office and she won’t put any pressure on herself and on the team, which has yet to drop a set this conference.

“I continue to prepare for the last game [of the first round]. It’s very important,” she said.
