WILLIE Marcial wore many hats in the PBA, starting from his humble beginnings as statistician in the 1980s, to becoming a floor director with Vintage Sports. In January of 2018, Marcial ascended from the ranks to become the 10th commissioner of Asia’s first professional basketball league.
Marcial has seen it all during his stint in the PBA, but none greater perhaps during his appointment as the league’s commissioner.
Marcial came in as commissioner at a time when the league was in turmoil following the resignation of Chito Narvasa at the end of 2017, hence the label as the "healing commissioner."
We invited Marcial in an interview for SPIN.ph Sidelines where we discussed his humble beginnings in the PBA, to his ascent as PBA commissioner, to the issues surrounding the league. Here is Part One of the interview.
