DISHING out assists doesn’t end in the four corners of a basketball court for University of Santo Tomas sophomore Mark Nonoy.
The UAAP Season 82 Rookie of the Year gave out packed meals to frontliners manning the streets of his hometown, La Carlota City, in Negros Occidental.
According to Nonoy, it was just one way of showing his gratitude to these modern day heroes who keep the locale safe and secured in time of pandemic.
“A little help for our frontliners. Thank you for keep[ing] on fighting for our country,” he said in a post.
From his post, it seems that he was able to pass around packed lunches to police or military personnel manning roadside checkpoints.
On Thursday, April 16, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson authorized an executive order that would gradually transition the province from enhanced community quarantine to a less restrictive general community quarantine.
This means the resumption of construction projects, as well as the partial reopening of mass transport (though citizens must still practice physical distancing).
The Growling Tigers finished first runner-up in the season’s men’s basketball, their first finals appearance in four years, after succumbing to defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles. Nonoy was named the top rookie of his batch.
And what better way to give back than to actually lend a hand? After all, he owes his athletic career to the province that honed him to be the athlete that he is now.
