BEING the oldest professional basketball league in all of Asia, the PBA has produced world-class basketball players who have delighted fans for the past 43 years. Every year, during the league’s grand opening ceremonies, fans excitedly await their favorite players to take the court.
But while the basketball stars are rightfully the main attraction, it cannot be denied that the team muse is as eagerly anticipated as the players themselves.
To be chosen as a muse is a great honor and a real opportunity to be part of the franchise's success. When the teams parade their respective muses, it’s as if the gates of Mount Olympus open and goddesses come down to mingle with mortals. Many of the country's most beautiful women and brightest stars have represented PBA teams, and below we look back at some of the most unforgettable.
The word "beautiful" is an understatement to describe Marian Rivera. The Kapuso primetime queen has been a PBA muse twice. The first time in 2007 for TNT, and the second in 2013 for Ginebra.
If there was such a thing as a 'PBA Muse Hall of Fame,' Alice Dixson would definitely be in it. The TV actress once shared that she has already lost count how many times she's been a muse. “Parang panglima ko na yata ito, parang it's been almost 30 years and nagmu-muse pa rin ako. It’s a funny feeling pero masaya pa rin,” said Dixon, who was one of three Petron muses in 2014.
Sunshine Cruz is another veteran muse, be it in the PBA or the now-defunct leagues such as the PBL. “Ang alam ko sa PBL ‘yung Welcoat noon 15 or 16 years ago. May isang beses pa nag-PBA rin ako, but I don't remember talaga,” she said.
Rachel Anne Daquis
Volleyball star Rachel Anne Daquis stands out from the competition every time she's chosen as a muse. The Cignal team captain has been a PBA muse for three seasons —2014 with Global Port, 2015 with San Miguel, and 2017 for NLEX.
It was the first time for TV actress Kim Domingo to be a PBA muse in 2016 with none other than the league’s most popular team, Ginebra. Hands down, Domingo received the loudest cheer when she came out. What surprised her the most, though, was when the players from other teams asked to have a selfie with her. “Sobrang happy na nagpa-picture sila sa akin kahit ‘yung ibang players ng ibang team pero Ginebra pa rin syempre,” she said with a smile.
Maureen Wroblewitz was already a PBA muse even before she became part of Eat! Bulaga. She represented Magnolia in 2017.
