RANDY Iblasin isn’t your ordinary fan. The Hong Kong-based architect is an avid supporter of volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez. He regularly flies to the Philippines, spending at least 1,106 HKD (P7,500) for a one-way plane ticket and traveling 1,115 kilometers just to watch her games live. He even travels to countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore to watch her play.
“Syempre hindi labag sa loob ko gumastos. Kung kinakailangan nga umuwi, uuwi ako,” Iblasin relates to Spin.ph.
Iblasin, the vice-president of the Certified Supporters of Ms. MVP Alyssa Valdez Fans Club, or simply Alyfinity, shares his skills with the fans club for free.
He himself actually makes a huge banner or a well-crafted cutout of Valdez for fans to carry during games.
As an architect consultant in Hong Kong, he makes the most of the vacation leave that his company gives him.
“Minsan kapag uuwi ako itataon ko sa mga weekend or holiday [sa Hong Kong],” he says.
Others might think he's crazy, but Iblasin points out that all the effort is worth it. Seeing Valdez play, to him, is priceless.
