THEY came from different backgrounds but Magnolia star Marc Pingris and actress Danica Sotto have brought out the best in each other.
He had a rough childhood in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, he started to work at a young age to help his family, while she grew up in a comfortable life.
But Marc, who was never ashamed of his humble beginnings and worked hard to where he is now, has made Danica fell in love with him.
“Noong una syempre adjustment period kasi magkaiba kayo ng culture, magkaiba kayo ng kinalakihan pero feeling ko ‘yung din ‘yung ginamit ni Lord kasi in a way na complement namin ‘yung isa’t-isa,” said Danica, whose parents are showbiz personalities Vic Sotto and Dina Bonnevie.
“Kasi kumbaga ‘yung mga hindi ko naranasan natuturo niya sa akin ‘yun - ‘yung strength, ‘yung hindi basta-basta magi-give up - so maganda rin kasi natuto kami from each other,” she added.
Danica also shared that Marc, through the trials that he had to go through, has taught her so many lessons in life.
“Naging key sa amin is respect kung ano ‘yung kanya-kanyang backgrounds at saka compromise din kami,” she said.

If when she was single, she had anything done her way, things changed when she got married to Marc 2007.
“So before kung sanay ako na andyan lang, ngayon kailangan ko nang hatiin [ang schedule], kapag nag-celebrate ng New Year sa Pangasinan, Christmas dito,” she said.
“Hindi na katulad dito na ako lang, kailangan ko rin mag-adjust kasi kawawa rin siya, wala siyang immediate family in Manila,” she added.
In a previous interview with SPIN.ph, Marc said that he wants his rags-to-riches story will inspire his children and Danica couldn’t agree more.
“Lagi naman namin kinukwento sa mga bata," she said, referring to Marc's humble beginnings. "At saka when we go to Pangasinan they are very exposed, talagang ibang-iba dito. Kunwari minsan ang dudungis na nilang uuwi, pero they have to understand na kung saan nanggaling ang dad nila.”
“For me, academics important ‘yan pero kailangan marunong ka rin dumiskarte sa buhay,” she pointed out. “‘Yun ‘yung isang major thing na gusto ni Marc matutunan ng mga bata is ‘yung pagiging street smart.”
“Kasi ‘yung iba, they know what to do but they’re scared ‘di ba? Takot silang to take chances, to take opportunities,” she added.
Now that Marc is on his way to recovery from his ACL injury he sustained las year, Danica is bracing herself for some action-packed basketball games again.
“Kanina kinukwento ko kay Russelle [Barroca, wife of Mark Barroca] pineprepare ko na ang sarili ko kung kaya ko ba ulit ‘yung ganoong kaba,” she said. “Sabi niya [Ruselle] ipag-pray mo lang.”
