Meet the new PBA Ironman's equally amazing wife

AS a wife to a PBA player, Chesca Tenorio’s heart swells with pride everytime she sees Ginebra star LA Tenorio work tirelessly throughout his career.

The mother of three could only smile that, despite the many losses and criticisms he had to endure, LA always turns out to be a better athlete and more so a better man.

In a chat with SPIN.ph, Chesca shared how happy and proud she is to be LA’s wife.

“Proud, I’m really proud. Being an athlete takes so much of a man. When you’re an athlete you compete regularly, so for you to take loses and wins on a regular basis, I think, speaks so much of a man,” she said.

Unfortunately though, during that day, Ginebra suffered a major blow, losing to Magnolia in the quarterfinals to end its campaign in the PBA Philippine Cup.

But Chesca, who has been with LA for almost two decades, is sure that he will only come back stronger.

“I’ve witnessed LA play basketball since college, [now] more than a wife to a PBA player, it’s more of a wife to a professional athlete,” she said.

“And to me, it’s a different kind of man to be able compete on a regular basis to take wins and loses and be a better person after so that’s what I value the most in his career,” she added.

Recently, LA was honored as the PBA's new Ironman after surpassing the 15-year mark (596 games) held by Alvin Patrimonio since 2004.

Although Chesca was quick to say that it was all LA’s efforts that he has achieved such a feat, still it’s a collective effort from their family that made it possible.

Chesca revealed that she and her kids Sian, Santi and Lucas, fully understand and respect LA’s job, even if they have to sacrifice Christmas vacations whenever Ginebra was scheduled to play on December 25 every year.

“As a family, me and my kids, we make sure to adjust to his routine,” she said. “So he has a very particular practice routine, game-day routine, that’s what he wants so we adjust to that.”

“On game days we don’t disturb him, eliminations man ‘yan or finals. Like every after game or practice hindi ko siya pwedeng madaliin because he has to do his muscle rehabilitation. My kids naman whatever schedule ng kids ina-adjust na lang,” she added.

“Wala, kapag Christmas may game, dito kami mag [celebrate] ng Christmas sa Manila, ganon talaga. So magno-Noche Buena dito but kapag ano naman may games na may Christmas nakakauwi kami sa Cebu bumabalik na lang siya dito, siya lang mag-isa," she continued with a laugh.

Being married for 19 years, Chesca has learned the ropes on how to balance her time for her husband, kids, and work.

In fact, during that game-day, from Makati, where she works as a stockbroker, she rushed to make it to the game in Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

“Sa conference na ito, ito lang ang napanood kong game,” she said with a laugh.

“[When I gave birth] except for our first child, our second and third child were [born on] game days. Talagang ano minake sure niya na operahan ako before pa ‘yung call time niya so he can make the game,” she added.

“Kami naman sa house very supportive, we don’t put any pressure. Ako, for me, it’s really a blessing that he has a job, that he lasted long in his career,” she continued.
