Nierva, a four-time UAAP girls’ division champion of Nazareth School, admitted she'll never get used to losing. In this picture captured by lensman Mix Gatpandan, Nierva is down on her knees, looking quite heartbroken after another NU defeat.

Though visibly upset, Nierva says this picture has reminded her to stay positive and be more resilient. “Naging motivation ko yung picture na ito na kailangan after ng talo you will come back stronger,” says Nierva.

Nierva has always believed that her family is her rock, the inspiration that keeps her going, especially during the most trying of times. Last Valentine's Day, Nierva chose to spend that special day with her mom rather than bewailing yet another loss.

“Kapag athlete ka source of strength and motivation mo is your family,” Nierva says. “So malaking bagay kapag sinasabi nila yung thoughts nila at napaparamdam nila sa'yo yung love kasi yun yung kailangan mo sa mga ganoong oras.”

Former coach Babes Castillo will always have a special place in Nierva’s heart even though they are not together in one team now. This photo was posted last October 24, 2018 at Pulang Bato, Negros Occidental. That was the first time that the batch of Nierva joined mainstays Audrey Paran, Joni Chavez, and Roselyn Doria. Though Castillo is now handling Sta. Lucia in the Philippine Superliga, Nierva vows to always remember all the lessons she has learned from her ex-coach.

Nierva had a great time when the Lady Bullpups went to Taiwan to celebrate their fourth consecutive championship. “Super enjoy yung mga moments namin doon,” she recalls.

    Pre-game ritual

Nierva enjoys taking selfies prior to every game. This one went viral and was a hit among her fans who couldn't help but feel stunned by their idol's natural beauty. Nierva always finds the time to sneak a selfie or two in because she's always been quick to gear up for the game.
