RAIN or Shine rookie Javee Mocon has already stolen the hearts of the fans (and even non-fans) of the Elasto Painters the moment he stepped foot in the PBA.

It may have initially been because of his handsome looks, but his talent inside the court definitely became the ultimate factor as he was immediately dubbed “The Next James Yap.”

Although Mocon is extremely grateful for the compliment, he immediately stressed that there can only be one James Yap in the PBA or in Philippine basketball.

“Lagi kong sinasabi, walang bagong James Yap. Wala ng next James Yap kasi mahirap [na makuha] yung [naachieve niyang] championships, MVPs. I want to make my own path,” said Mocon on Wednesday after RoS lost to Columbian Dyip, 82-85, in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The comparison was made because of Mocon's impressive career during his college years in San Beda becoming the university’s ultimate weapon and giving his alma mater its 22nd title.

Mocon is so attentive to Yap's game that he feels his impressive performance in and out of the court is already advice in itself.

“Kahit wala siyang sabihin eh, just watching him [play] alam mo yun? Idol ko siya e. He did what I need to do. He can be the one who shows me what I need to do,” shared Mocon.

The former San Beda standout is also thankful for the fans who have showered him with support even as a rookie.

“Masaya kasi dream ko talaga [makapaglaro] sa PBA, and ayun nga, na-attract ko yung mga fans which is talagang maganda lalo na for Rain or Shine and for the PBA din,” said Mocon.
