EVEN James Yap is in awe of how big his son Bimby Aquino Yap has grown.
"Nagulat ako na ganon na pala siya katangkad, hindi ko ine-expect," the basketball star gushed when SPIN Life talked to him during a down time in the PBA bubble.
While Bimby probably got his height from Yap's DNA, the Rain or Shine star was quick to point out that Kris Aquino's family also has a lot of tall members.
"Sa tingin ko, tatangkad pa nga 'yan kasi bata pa," the two-time PBA MVP said, pointing out that Bimby was a lot taller than him at that age.
"Ako 'nung 13 ako, hindi pa ako umabot ng 6-feet, 5'9 lang ata ako non, kaya tingin ko, tatangkad pa 'yan," Yap said.
The 6-foot-2 forward expressed his gratitude to estranged wife, saying he raised Bimby as well as his half-brother Kuya Josh very well.
"Nagpapasalamat din ako sa mom niya, na maganda talaga ang pagpapalaki, kita naman na healthy, mabait, and magalang sila Bimby," he said.
Aquino's photos have sparked posts from netizens encouraging Bimby to play basketball like his dad, but Yap said he wants his son to pursue anything that he's really passionate about.
"Hindi pwedeng ipilit sa isang bata ang isang bagay. Kung ano ang hilig niya, susuporta lang ako, suporta lang dapat. Kung anumang larangan ang gusto niyang tahakin, support tayo," he said.
