NLEX resident big man Asi Taulava has been around 20 years, yet his pre-game routine hasn't changed a bit.
Boring is good.
“I just sleep all morning, afternoon. Get up and take a shower, keep myself ready and just come in and get ready to play,” the 46-year-old big man shared. “I don’t do nothing. I [just] do the same routine over and over.”
Taulava has managed to last this long in the PBA by keeping up with the young guys, but that doesn't apply in the fashion department. The veteran prefers old school in favor of flashy and extravagant outfits.
“I just come here to feel normal. I’ve been around for so long. Nothing spectacular, I got a pretty boring life. I’m not that spectacular like all the other guys do. Just keep it simple,” he said.
But he does keep up with the latest trends in terms of conditioning and training, if only to prolong a career that is next only to icon Robert Jaworski in terms of longevity.
“I gotta stay ahead of the game. I can’t act like I’m a 46-year old,” he said. “I gotta put in the extra work and try to be discreet and hide it from other people so nobody knows how I’m working. And keep myself in shape so when coach calls my number, I’m out there working.”
