Will Jayjay Helterbrand and Gerald Anderson's high-octane tandem dubbed "The Fast and The Pogi" ever eclipse the popularity of the former's iconic partnership with Mark Caguioa in the PBA?
That seems to be the furthest in Imus Bandera's Gerald Anderson's mind right now. After all, he still can't get over the fact that Helterbrand is his teammate in the MPBL.
“It’s amazing. The Fast and The Furious sila ni Mark Caguioa, kami The Fast and The Pogi daw. Hindi ko alam kung matutuwa ako eh,” Anderson said during the press conference of the Skechers Performance Run 2019.
The TV and movie actor shared how excited the whole team was in welcoming the former PBA MVP and Ginebra icon to Imus Bandera's fold.
“I’m sure kaya niya mag-50 points, but he’s a very nice and humble guy," he said. "Lahat kami starstruck kasi siya ‘yung huling nag-confirm na part siya ng team. Minsan nga kapag practice, siya ‘yung gusto kong bantayan kasi isa siya sa pinakamagaling. Siyempre you wanna go up against the best.”
But aside from Helterbrand's star power, Anderson realized during their first game how impactful his teammate's presence could be not just to Imus Bandera but to the whole league as well.
“Noong first game namin, home crowd pa ng kalaban, nagpi-free throw si Jayjay at ang isinisigaw ng fans, ‘Ginebra! Ginebra! Ginebra!’ Crucial pa ‘yun,” he said. “Nangilabot nga ako, just ‘yung experience niya sa PBA, 17 years siya sa PBA, ‘yung experience niya ina-absorb ko.”
