EJ Laure sparkled on both offense and defense for University of Santo Tomas, announcing her comeback in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball tournament.
After skipping two seasons due to a shoulder injury, the veteran spiker saw action for the first time as UST bowed to National University, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 13-25, on Wednesday at the MOA Arena in Pasay.
But she insisted that her 17 points, 20 digs, and 12 excellent receptions still weren’t enough.
“Siguro sa first game, fell short,” she said. “Pero syempre babangon pa rin.”
Personally, though, the elder Laure was pleased to finally be back to show how hard she's worked in the past two years.
“Paano ko ba masasabi? Pinaghandaan ko kasi talaga ‘to, so nag-double time ako tapos ‘yun lumabas lang kung [ano'ng pinaghandaan ko],” she said.
“Siguro ‘yung mindset lang talaga before the game kasi lahat sila kinakabahan before the game tapos UAAP na. Syempre as a veteran, as an ate sa kanila, hindi ko pinapakita sa kanila na if ever kinakabahan ako,” she added. “So mas nili-lead ko sila na, 'Ah si ate EJ kaya pala i-handle ‘yung kaba.'"
Aside from her comeback, EJ was happy to be reunited with her teammates and sister Eya on the court.
“Syempre happy kasi after ilang years andito na ulit kami [ni Eya sa UAAP]. Syempre may struggle lang sa court kasi unang game pa lang namin sa UAAP,” said EJ.
