Get to know University of Santo Tomas rookie Eya Laure before she sees action in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament. Here are eight things worth taking note of about the young superstar.
1. Basketball is her first love
It was in 2010 when UST coach Kungfu Reyes, who also handles the school’s girls’ volleyball team, saw her playing basketball in the old UST gym.
Reyes immediately saw the talent in the young Laure which is why he invited her to join the team. The rest, as they say, is history.
“Nag-start ako mag-volleyball dahil kay coach Kungfu. Kasi basketball talaga ako then niyaya niya ako kasi nakikita niya ako sa gilid [ng court] na nagba-basketball,” she recalls.
2. She likes anything made with sugar
Eya has a bubbly and sweet personality, which she may have gotten from all the sweet treats that she enjoys a lot.
“Mahilig ako sa matatamis. Kahit anong matamis,” she said.
3. Black makes her sexy
Aside from arduous volleyball training, she has another way to look fit and thin in an instant.
"Mahilig akong magsuot ng black kasi nakakapayat yun,” she revealed.
4. Lights on
She’s not a scaredy cat, she just can’t sleep with the lights off.
5. Ate Sisi
She’s a rookie but she plays like a veteran. No wonder she, and graduating player Sisi Rondina get along so well.
6. She can be just a normal student
If she wasn’t a volleyball player, Eya can enjoy a simple and private life being an ordinary student in UST.
O kaya natutulog, kain, aral, ordinary student,” she said.
Since she started out playing basketball after her father, former basketball player Eddie Laure, Eya dreamt of being in the WNBA.
“Dream ko pa noon mag WNBA,” she shared.
8. She wants to travel the world
Being a tourism student, Eya also enjoys traveling, and what better way to travel while getting paid than to be a flight attendant.
“Ultimate dream ko, if hindi ko na kaya mag-volleyball, gusto ko maging flight attendant,” she said. “Kasi nga mahilig ako maglakwatsa.”
